BAE Systems has secured a contract to deliver its Bofors 155mm BONUS ammunition to the Swedish Army.

The contract for 254 additional rounds of the latest version of BONUS was awarded by the Swedish Defense and Material Administration.

Fired from BAE Systems-built Archer artillery guns, BONUS is designed to detect and combat heavily armoured vehicles within 35km.

When launched from any 155mm artillery system, the BONUS carrier shell separates to deploy two sensor-fused munitions that then search for targets within a given footprint, up to 32,000m².

Each of the two expelled munitions independently seeks and neutralises its own target, BAE Systems stated.

“Because each BONUS shell carries two smart munitions, its mission success per round is far greater than with traditional ammunition.”

BAE Systems managing director Lena Gillström said: “Because each BONUS shell carries two smart munitions, its mission success per round is far greater than with traditional ammunition, providing the Swedish Army with clear advantages.”
