AmeyBriggs has secured a £240m contract to overhaul the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) construction and materials handling equipment, also called MITER fleet.

Under the seven year contract, AmeyBriggs will maintain, manage and support the fleet which includes excavators, bulldozers, cranes and forklift trucks among others.

The contract combines three separate existing contracts under one arrangement. This order was negotiated by MOD’s procurement arm Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S).

The MITER fleet is used by the armed forces in peace time activities and other operations around the world.

In the recent years, such equipment was used during major flooding incidents in the UK. They were also deployed in the Caribbean for recovery work after the islands were ravaged by Hurricanes Irma and Dorian.

UK Defence Minister Jeremy Quin said: “Our Armed Forces deserve the best equipment for their vital operations, both in the UK and right across the world. From humanitarian support to keeping our country safe, construction and mechanical vehicles are a key asset for defence.
