Oshkosh Defense wins US Army delivery order for 6,107 JLTVs
The US Army awarded a $1.69bn contract to Oshkosh Defense for the supply of 6,107 units of joint light tactical vehicles (JLTVs).
Under the agreement, the company will also be committed to providing the army with associated installed and packaged kits.

Morocco seeks sale of enhancements to 162 Abrams tanks from US
The Government of Morocco requested the sale of enhancements for 162 Abrams tanks from the US for an estimated cost of $1.259bn.
Congress has been notified about the possible foreign military sale by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
Approved by the US State Department, the enhancements will be procured through the excess defence article (EDA) programme and will involve variants such as M1A1 Abrams situational awareness (baseline version), M1A2M with commander’s independent thermal viewer, or M1A1 US Marine Corps version that includes slew to cue.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of a possible foreign military sale of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to Egypt for an estimated cost of $1bn.
Under the potential deal, the Egyptian Government requested the acquisition of ten AH-64E helicopters, in addition to 24 units of the 1700-GE-701D engines with containers, 12 modernised target acquisition designation sights / pilot night-vision sensors, and 24 Honeywell embedded global positioning systems (GPS) with an inertial navigation system.
In addition, the sale includes the possible delivery of 24 M299 Hellfire launchers, 135 Hellfire missiles, five M36E9 captive air training missile AGM-114R and 12 AAR-57 (V) common missile warning systems.
Elbit acquires Israeli defence manufacturer IMI Systems for $495m
Elbit Systems completed the acquisition of Israeli Government-owned IMI Systems for a purchase price of approximately NIS1.8bn ($495m).
The deal includes an additional payment of approximately NIS100m ($27m), which is subject to IMI Systems meeting certain agreed performance goals.
Elbit Systems president and chief executive officer Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis said: “The synergy between the capabilities of the two companies and the global positioning of Elbit Systems will enable us to offer an enhanced portfolio and to realise the potential of the technologies of IMI in the international arena, making this acquisition significant to our long-term growth strategy.”
Slovenian Armed Forces place order for Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon system
The Slovenian Armed Forces placed a new order for the delivery of Saab’s latest Carl-Gustaf M4 multi-role weapon system.
As a new addition to the group of Saab’s Carl-Gustaf system customers, Slovenia is currently the ninth customer for the M4 variant of the weapon system since its launch in late 2014.
Deliveries of the man-portable, shoulder-launched weapon to the Slovenian Armed Forces will be carried out between this year and 2020.
QinetiQ joins Cobham team to support UK MoD’s ASDOT programme
Cobham added QinetiQ to its team to support the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Air Support to Defence Operational Training (ASDOT) programme.
Under the deal, QinetiQ will join other team members Draken International and 3SDL to develop new solutions for operational readiness training under the MoD programme.
Cobham has been engaged in providing operational readiness training in support of the UK MoD for the last 30 years.
DARPA conducts ground and flight tests of CODE-equipped UASs
The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) collaborative operations in denied environment (CODE) programme conducted ground and flight tests of CODE-equipped unmanned aerial systems (UASs).
Conducted recently at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, US, the tests successfully demonstrated aircraft autonomy and collaboration with minimal live human commands.
The DARPA programme exhibited the capability of a range of CODE-enabled UASs to adapt and respond to unexpected threats in an anti-access / area denial (A2 / AD) environment.
First US DoD-wide financial statement audit completed for FY 18
The US Department of Defense (DoD) has completed its first-ever full-scope, department-wide, financial statement audit covering $2.7tn in assets and $2.6tn in liabilities for fiscal year (FY) 2018.
The audit included all assets within the US military, including buildings, fences, storage tanks, planes, ships, tanks, and computers.
DoD’s audit was carried out by more than 1,200 auditors over 900 site visits at more than 600 locations across the defence department.
Malaysia’s ForceSHIELD ground-based air defence system attains FSA
The Malaysian Armed Forces’ (MAF) ForceSHIELD ground-based air defence (GBAD) system project has achieved full system acceptance (FSA).
The integrated advanced air defence system has been delivered to the MAF by Thales together with The Weststar Group’s Global Komited under a contract signed between the companies in September 2015.
Since signing the contract, programme management, operational and technical staff from the MAF, Thales and Global Komited have worked together to reach the milestone.
Indian Army receives K9 Vajra and M777 howitzer weapon systems
The Indian Army received the formal delivery of the 155mm 52-calibre tracked self-propelled K9 Vajra artillery gun system and M777 ultra-light howitzer weapon systems for a total value of approximately Rs94bn ($1.31bn).
The official induction of the weapon system into the Indian Army service was carried out during a ceremony conducted in Nashik, Maharashtra, India.
Delivery included 145 units of the US M777 howitzers and 100 units of the South Korean-made K9 Vajra.
