At the SPS/IPC/DRIVES in Nuremberg Kontron introduces the next step in rugged MicroTCA platforms. The cost-optimized Kontron OM6062 MicroTCA.1 integrated platform is now available in a pre-validated configuration with the new MicroTCA.1-compliant Kontron AM5901 MicroTCA Carrier Hub (MCH), and Kontron AM5500 storage modules.
Equipped with the AdvancedMC module Kontron AM5010, the OM6062 is Kontron’s first fully-MicroTCA.1-compliant platform, and also supports any standards-compliant AdvancedMC modules. Compared to conventional MicroTCA platforms, customers benefit from greater robustness and higher shock and vibration resistance, as well as improved cost-efficiency due to the simplified design. Furthermore, the Kontron OM6062’s double-width form factor adds more PCB space and front panel space for additional features on a single AdvancedMC. Target applications include, but are not limited to: image processing, data processing, motion control, and process control, as well as test and measurement in markets such as medical, energy, industrial automation, and telecommunications.
The Kontron OM6062 supports hot-swappable mid-sized AdvancedMCs with single-width and double-width form factors. In its basic configuration, the Kontron OM6062 features an AC power supply unit, so no extra AC/DC converters are needed. The new, integrated double-width MCH extends the configuration to be addressed with MicroTCA platforms. Kontron’s latest MicroTCA.1 platform can be extended with the Kontron AM5010 dual-core processor board, which features sophisticated graphics and SATA HDD on board. The Kontron OM6062 can be shipped fully configured and tested, including a pre-installed operating system (Windows, Red Hat Linux or WindRiver VxWorks).
Kontron AM5901 MicroTCA.1 Carrier Hub
The Kontron AM5901 is an entry-level MCH solution to enable cost-effective MicroTCA.1-compliant system designs. Designed in a double-width AMC form factor, it features a comprehensive set of uplink capabilities on the front: 4 x 1 GbE, two of which are multiplexed to the SFP cages, plus two RJ45 connectors for one management interface, and one serial interface to access the management controller (MCMC). The Kontron AM5901 provides system management and Ethernet switching for six AMCs, and is designed as a single PCB solution with only one MCH tongue. For management functions, the Kontron AM5901 contains a MCMC LPC2368 with Kontron’s own IPMI software.
The Kontron AM5010 is a highly-integrated CPU board implemented as a double, mid-sized AdvancedMC.1-compliant (AMC) module. The design is based on the Intel Core2 Duo LV 1.5 GHz processor with 4 MB L2 cache and 667 MHz frontside bus (FSB) with Intel 3100 server-class chipset. The board includes up to 4 GB of registered double data rate (DDR2) memory with error checking and correcting (ECC) running at 400 MHz. The CPU mezzanine also provides up to 8 GB of flash memory via a USB 2.0 NAND Flash Controller, and additionally offers the capability for an onboard 2.5″ SATA HDD or SDD. With support for the PICMG sub-specifications AMC.1/.2/.3, the AM5010 ensures a comprehensive set of interconnecting capabilities.
The Kontron AM5500 is a double-width AMC module offering dual SATA carrier functionality for 2.5″ storage devices, giving it an overall maximum storage capacity of 1 Terabyte today, and even higher when HDD capacities rise. For applications that demand higher shock and vibration resistance, the storage module also supports SSDs. For MicroTCA.1-compliant shock and vibration resistance, the Kontron AM5500 is equipped with module-to-subrack retaining screws, as defined in the MicroTCA.1 specification, to affix the module to the chassis.
