L-3 Security & Detection Systems (SDS) announced today that three new X-ray systems for screening break-bulk freight and skids have been added to the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Air Cargo Qualified Product List (QPL).

The recently qualified systems are the PX™ 10.10-MV, PX™ 15.17-MV 200 and PX™ 18.18-MV 200. These additional systems enable L-3 SDS to offer a total of 15 TSA-qualified air cargo products to help airlines, freight forwarders and other Certified Cargo Screening Facilities (CCSF) screen air cargo transported in both passenger aircraft and cargo planes.

"With these latest additions, our TSA-approved air cargo portfolio now includes dual-view offerings with larger tunnels and higher power options," said Thomas M. Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems.

"These solutions provide customers with the flexibility to quickly screen break-bulk freight and consolidated air cargo, even in densely packed skids."

These new systems serve a range of break-bulk and oversized freight screening applications from air cargo, postal and receiving dock, to customs and quarantine screening. The PX 10.10-MV offers a low belt height for screening non-palletized freight, providing superior image performance and minimum manual handling issues.

It offers a unique modular architecture with segments that can be wheeled individually through a standard doorway or elevator and quickly reconnected – allowing the system to be deployed in many areas previously only accessible to much smaller units. Its flexible architecture can easily be expanded from one to two views in the field to suit the application.

The high-powered PX 15.17-MV and PX 18.18-MV platforms, which come in both 200 and 320 kV power configurations for denser goods and organic materials, achieve best-in-class penetration while reducing the need to unpack contents for inspection, accelerating screening of consolidated cargo.

For more than a decade, L-3 SDS has been providing airports and shippers with a conventional and high-energy X-ray line of inspection systems for break-bulk, skids, pallets and ULDs. L-3’s equipment screens cargo ranging from shipments of fruits and vegetables to electronics and is currently in operation at shipping, forwarding and independent cargo screening facilities worldwide.
