Bisalloy Steels Quenched and Tempered Armour Steel Plate for the Defence Industry
Bisalloy Steels is Australia’s only quenched and tempered armour steel plate manufacturer.
The company’s specialised processes strengthen and harden the specially alloyed steel plate, adding two essential steps: quenching and tempering.
Armoured vehicle protection for military applications
Despite harder and stronger steel being highly desirable within a defence application, the tempering process creates a more ductile steel plate. The toughness of Bisalloy’s armour grades range means an even greater resistance to kinetic projectiles and blasts.
That is why quenched and tempered armour steel proves particularly useful within armoured vehicle protection. Fabrication considerations such as cutting, drilling and forming / rolling are significantly not compromised. Overall, the combined processes of quenching and tempering, together with a specialised and highly refined alloying, produce more resilient armour steel that also remains weldable, ductile and tough.
Steel armour plate for APC and LAV hull applications
Bisalloy Steels is currently supplying the Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicle’s steel armour plate, as well as for a number of other light armoured vehicles (LAVs) and armoured personnel carriers (APCs) being manufactured worldwide. Typical applications are hulls in LAVs and APCs.
Bisalloy additionally supplies armour plate to police and military forces, governments and civilian applications worldwide, as well as armoured vehicle manufacturers for security booths and vehicles, splinter boxes, training facilities, embassy ‘safe rooms’ and various other applications.
Bisalloy Steels is an approved facility to manufacture armour steel plates by defence authority in various countries including Australia and the US. The company’s armour plates comply with US MIL-DTL standards, which are being used as the specifications for the manufacture of armour steel plates worldwide.
Tough armour grades for ballistic projectile resistance
Bisalloy manufactures a range of armour grades to suit different specific applications. The grades varies from less hard but tough for blast application, hard and tough for a combined resistance to both shock and penetration, to very high hardness plates to provide resistance to ballistic projectiles.
Overall, Bisalloy produces six armour grades: Bisplate Ultra High Hardness (UHH) (MIL-DTL-32332), Bisplate High Hardness Armour (HHA) (MIL-DTL-46100), Bisplate Ultra High Toughness (UHTA) (MIL-DTL-12560 Cl. 4), Bisplate High Toughness Armour (HTA), Bisplate High Impact Armour Cl. 1 (HIA1) (MIL-DTL-12560 Cl.1) and Bisplate High Impact Armour Cl. 2 (HIA2) (MIL-DTL-12560 Cl. 2).
