The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a potential sale of three AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopters to Turkey.

Under the estimated $111m foreign military sale, Turkey also requested seven T700-GE-401 engines, inspections and modifications, spare and repair parts, personnel training and training equipment and other related logistics support.

The proposed sale will further enhance Turkey’s ground defence capabilities as well as self defence, modernisation, regional security, and interoperability with US and other Nato members.

The helicopters will be sold from the US Marine Corps’ (USMC) inventory and five contractor representatives will be assigned to Turkey for a period of up to 90 days.
