The US and its seven coalition partners have decided to strengthen its counter-ISIS campaign in Iraq and Syria.

An agreement was signed by the US with the defence ministers of Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the UK.

The US and the allies discussed potential military campaign advancements to combat the terrorist group.

UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said: "We have made strong progress in recent weeks. Now the campaign is moving into a new phase where we aim to systematically dismantle Daesh’s structure and capabilities.

"That means striking harder at the head of the snake, with an increased focus on infrastructure, lines of communication and supply routes."

According to airwars.org, airstrikes by the US-led coalition as part of Operation Inherent Resolve have killed more than 23,000 ISIS fighters in the past 530 days of the campaign.

The US Department of Defense stated in a press release: "We reaffirmed our governments’ continuing substantial commitment to work together with the entire C-ISIL / Daesh Coalition to accelerate and intensify the campaign against ISIL / Daesh, in order to deliver a lasting defeat to this barbaric organisation.

"We expressed our broad support for the campaign plan objectives, and the need to continue gathering momentum in our campaign, as it moves into its next phase targeting ISIL / Daesh’s vulnerabilities."
