Ukraine and the UAE have agreed to cooperate on the production and delivery of military equipment for the UAE Armed Forces.

The partnership will see the two countries co-produce precision weapons, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), anti-weapon UAVs, radio-electronic warfare and SIGINT equipment.

In addition to cooperating in the military-technical area, Ukraine and UAE are also expected to explore new prospective areas of collaboration, the state company Ukrinmash noted.

The precision weapons to be produced under the programme are intended for delivery to the UAE Army and Navy.

The collaboration also covers the delivery of Antonov transport aircraft to the UAE Air Force.

Ukraine previously signed an agreement with the Government of Canada to cooperate on issues such as defence policy and military education earlier this year.

The agreement forms part of the Canadian Government’s multifaceted support programme, which aims to help maintain territorial integrity, sovereignty, security and stability in Ukraine.

Canada and Ukraine will identify areas of mutual cooperation such as defence research, development and production under the arrangement.

Canada has provided Ukraine with development, financial, humanitarian and non-lethal military assistance worth more than $700m since January 2014.

The two countries are currently working together as part of a range of international organisations, including the United Nations (UN), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and La Francophonie.
