Truck attacker shot dead after killing four soldiers in Jerusalem

Israeli police have killed a man who drove his truck into a group of soldiers in Jerusalem, killing four and injuring 17.

The driver, reportedly linked to ISIS, rammed his truck into Israeli soldiers stationed at the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Officers Training School on Sunday.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted by Reuters as saying: "We know the identity of the attacker. According to all the signs he is a supporter of ISIS.”

The truck-ramming attack took place when the soldiers were at Armon Hanatziv promenade, as part of a field trip to cultural sites.

"We condemn in the strongest terms possible today's terrorist attack that targeted Israel's defence forces and express our deepest condolences to the victims."

The driver was identified as a Palestinian from Israeli-annexed East Jerusalem.

Police have arrested nine people in connection with the attack, including five members of the attacker’s family, according to media sources.

US Department of Defense Press Secretary Peter Cook said: “We condemn in the strongest terms possible today's terrorist attack that targeted Israel's defence forces and express our deepest condolences to the victims.

“The US remains committed to Israel's security and will stand with Israel to combat all forms of terrorism.‎"
