Tiger 7401

Sectra has been awarded a contract to supply the Tiger 7401 encrypted mobile phones to the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Valued at €580,000, the contract also includes a two-year extension of a framework agreement encompassing service and maintenance for the secure communication systems already used by the ministry.

In addition, the contract includes an option for Sectra Panthon, a smartphone application for secure voice and data communication and text messaging.

Sectra Secure Communications business area president Michael Bertilsson said the recent eavesdropping allegations have again highlighted the need for more secure communication systems.

"Unprotected telephone calls and messages pose a security threat to individuals, organisations and nations," Bertilsson said.

"The ministry has shown high-security awareness for many years and this agreement ensures that the ministry can continue to keep its national secrets secure, in the best possible manner."

Derived from the Sectra’s Tiger XS personal encryption system, the Tiger 7401 is a highly secure mobile phone designed to enable communication of sensitive information between military personnel, government ministers and ambassadors across European Union (EU) countries.

"Unprotected telephone calls and messages pose a security threat to individuals, organisations and nations."

The secure communication interoperability protocols (SCIP) compliant device can communicate on multiple networks, such as 2G and 3G, as well as satellite communication and internet protocol (IP) networks to ensure the highest possible availability for the individual user.

In addition, the device is also used to protect voice and data communication from spying by other countries’ security agencies.

Approved up to Restricted classification level by the Netherlands, EU and Nato, Sectra Panthon functions on all major wireless networks, including 2G, 2.5G, 3G and Wi-Fi.

Both Sectra Panthon and Sectra Tiger 7401 have been approved for different security classification levels, and are well-positioned to match the individual security needs of the ministry’s users.

Sectra’s secure communication products have been in-use with the Dutch MoD since 2004.
