French company Safran Electronics & Defense has signed a new contract with its Middle Eastern partner, International Golden Group, to deliver Epsilon One inertial ground navigation systems and technical integration services to an undisclosed Middle-Eastern country.

Under the terms of the procurement contract, the ground navigation systems and technical services will be provided to an initial batch of combat vehicles to outfit a first armoured brigade of the country.

The deal includes the acquisition of more than 12 different vehicle types, ranging from all-terrain 4WD and troop transport vehicles to infantry vehicles and tanks.

Based on an inertial core using advanced resonating structure gyros, the Safran-patented Epsilon One inertial ground navigation solution is said to enhance reliability while reducing the cost of ownership.

"The system offers autonomous engagement capabilities to combat vehicles, even under circumstances when global positioning system (GPS) signals are jammed."

The tests confirmed that Epsilon One can be used for asymmetrical combat in urban zones.

When connected to a battle management system, the solution enables the crew members to obtain precise data both on position and heading, even under the most critical conditions.

Earlier, the French Army selected Safran's Epsilon system for integration onto its advanced and latest vehicles of the Scorpion programme.
