Saab Training USA has been awarded a contract for the delivery of additional radio communication network systems to the US Army for deployment during live training exercises.

The Skr99m ($14.4m) contract includes three exercised options of an original $41m live training transformation interim range system (LT2-IRS) contract, awarded by the US Army Program Executive Office of Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) in April 2011 for the supply of seven radio systems.

Under the deal, the company will manufacture and deploy additional three range systems at Fort Campbell and Fort Drum, as well as from an exportable training capability (ETC) system for fielding at multiple training facilities in 2013.

The original contract covered delivery of up to seven range systems in the next three years, with first deployment scheduled for November 2011, followed by an additional instrumentation system approximately every eight months at seven army home stations across the US.

As part of the LT2-IRS contract, the company is fielding communication network systems, consisting of more than 5,000 radios distributed to each soldier and vehicle, helping soldiers conduct an instrumented force-on-force training at home stations.

Equipped with a generator, 80ft antenna mask and a custom aluminium brackets and components, the system can be installed with a multiple integrated laser engagement system (MILES) to replicate combat conditions.

Saab Training USA has also completed delivery of 17 communication networks to the US Marine Corps (USMC) for use during similar instrumented training exercises.
