Rheinmetall to supply mine clearing equipment to undisclosed customer

Rheinmetall Denel Munition of South Africa has received several orders to supply mine clearing equipment and ammunition to an undisclosed international customer.

The anticipated value of the orders is more than €90m, the company stated.

Rheinmetall will provide the customer with two Plofadder mine clearing systems, associated training devices and ammunition, with a total value of more €28m.

The Plofadder system is capable of firing rockets to create a ladder-like demolition zone, which is capable of cutting a 160m-long, 9m-wide lane through a minefield.

Another order, worth around €65m, was placed by the customer for ammunition.

In a separate development, Rheinmetall will supply heavily protected tactical operations vehicle to Saxony State Police.

The Free State of Saxony has placed an order for two Survivor R-protected tactical operations vehicles, as part of a €15m anti-terror package.

The Survivor R was built by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) in cooperation with Achleitner.

This high-mobility vehicle, with a steel armour passenger compartment, can travel at a maximum speed of 100km/h, Rheinmetall stated.

It combines tried-and-tested automotive engineering with Rheinmetall's protection technology.

Rheinmetall's Survivor R can accommodate a crew of up to ten people with their personal kit, as well as a full panoply of communication and command and control equipment.
