Cubic Defense has received a contract from the US Army to provide the Instrumentable Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System Individual Weapons System (I-MILES IWS).

Under the $19m contract, awarded by the US Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), the company will provide an upgraded version of the laser-based troop training system.

The weapon system uses laser emitters that attach to military weapons and on-body sensors to replicate combat, and records for review later on.

The initial order covers one base year and includes four option years, with an overall task value in excess of $200m.
