The British Army has accepted delivery of Warthog armoured all-terrain vehicles from Singapore Technologies Kinetics (STK) for deployment in Afghanistan.
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a £150m ($230.3m) contract with STK in 2008 for 110 vehicles, which was delayed due to the machines’ armoured protection, according to Defence News.
The company has improved protection levels of the vehicle and has made other changes related to the increase in vehicle weight.
An STK spokeswoman said the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) would confirm if the vehicle was fit for operations in Afghanistan and other demanding terrain.
“UK troops have been training with the Warthog since March 2010 and the first vehicles are planned to deploy in the next few months for operational use in Afghanistan,” she said.
