The UK Army has requested a range of mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles from the US under a $122m foreign military sale programme.

Under the proposed sale, the UK could receive 102 Mastiff / MRAP Cougar category II 6×6 modified vehicles, associated tools and test equipment, maintenance support, spare and repair parts, and logistics support.

The acquisition would enable the UK military to operate more effectively in hazardous areas in a safe, survivable vehicle and enhance the UK’s interoperability with US forces.

Prime contractor for the production of vehicles will be Force Protection Industries in the US.

Current field maintenance support for the existing Mastiff vehicles by the US will be extended until the UK strengthens its support capability.
