The US Army has awarded a contract to Oshkosh Corporation to deliver an additional 1,460 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) all-terrain vehicles (M-ATV).

Under the $640m contract, the company will also provide replacement parts and spare-parts kits concurrent with M-ATV production, as well as provide field service representative (FSR) support in Afghanistan.

The Oshkosh M-ATV features a TAK-4 suspension system, which provides 16in independent wheel travel and a 70% off-road profile capability.

The vehicles are designed to protect the crew from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and provide side slope stability, vehicle durability, extreme mobility and enhanced crew protection.

To date, Oshkosh has received contracts valued at more than $4.74bn to deliver a total of 8,079 M-ATVs along with in-theatre support.

The contract has been awarded by the US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) and the Life-Cycle Management Command (LCMC).
