Test trials to find a suitable candidate for the Australian Army’s medium to heavyweight truck tender process have been completed, according to Defence Minister Greg Combet.

Combet said the trial tested 24 vehicles in five categories, putting the trucks through comprehensive field testing on public roads and military training areas over a six-month period.

The test trials were carried out under stage one of the Land 121 medium heavy capability tender refreshment process.

According to Combet, phase 3 of the Land 121 project (Overlander) is the largest land project in the current defence capability plan that seeks to significantly improve the capability, logistics and mobility for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Land 121 Overlander is a multiphased project that will provide the field vehicles, modules and trailers (FVM&T), and associated support items that the ADF needs to meet ADF mobility requirements.
