South Korea will buy an acoustic weapons-locating system and a military robot to be deployed in 2011 to enhance the security of its troops operating in Afghanistan.
The robot, together with the artillery, will track and protect troops from improvised explosive devices(IEDs), according to a senior military official.
"We are currently looking into models made in the US or Europe, which will be sharper and of higher-quality than the devices that were deployed for our troops in Iraq," the official said.
At present the US operates Bobcat and Talon IED-tracking and eliminating robots in Iraq and Afghanistan.
South Korea will deploy 320 troops, 40 police officers and 100 reconstruction team members to war-ravaged Afghanistan in July 2010.
