The US Army has awarded a $968.7m contract to Lockheed Martin to provide advanced Capability-3 Patriot missiles and associated equipment.

Under the contract, the company will deliver 253 tactical missiles, five test missiles, 20 launcher modification kits, 15 motor control units, 13 fire solution computers and 13 programmable array logic systems.

In addition, Lockheed will also provide 13 shorting plugs, six telemetry kits, replenishment spares, basic missile tooling upgrades, command and launch control tooling, and ground support equipment.

The major portion of the work, which is expected to be complete by 31 December 2012, will be carried out in Texas, Arkansas, Massachusetts and Florida.

The contract has been awarded by the US Army Aviation and Missile Command, Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
