The Spanish Army is planning to procure an 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicle to enhance the safety and mobility of Spanish troops.
Spanish forces currently operate the Italian-model Iveco LMV and South African-model BAE Systems RG-31.
About 300 8×8 vehicles, configured in several variants, will be purchased to replace the 6×6 wheeled BMR-600 vehicles currently in service with the Spanish Army.
General Dynamics Spanish subsidiary Santa Barbara is also proposing its Piranha and Pandur II, which could be readily assembled for Spanish troops.
In addition, the Spanish engineering company GTD teamed up with French company Nexter to compete for the Spanish programme, proposing the modified French VBCI military vehicle.
