The US Army has awarded a contract to SuperDrive to provide energy-efficient vehicles equipped with a hydrostatic continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Under the $2m contract, the energy management technology company will provide the CVT, which significantly reduces fuel consumption by using start-stop duty cycles.
SuperDrive's CVT manages the diesel engine revolutions per minute during acceleration and cruising by using hydraulics that allow the truck to operate using less fuel while generating lower amounts of emissions.
The US Army's 24,000lb GVW family of medium tactical 4×4 military trucks are already equipped with second-generation CVT.
Design and manufacture work of the CVT will be carried out by the company in cooperation with Anderson Tool & Engineering in Anderson, Indiana.
