UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has cancelled the planned £17.5m cuts in the Territorial Army (TA) training budget.
Additionally, plans to suspend all routine TA training for six months were also dropped, and plans to offer one night's training every month for for personnel not due to be deployed to Afghanistan were adopted instead.
The prime minister, who had already reduced the training budget cuts from £20m to £17.5m, reversed his decision following criticism from ministers and soldiers.
Brown also said that the government was spending £1bn more on Afghanistan and £1bn more on defence in addition to reinstating the TA's full training budget.
The TA is the volunteer reserve force of the British Army.
