French Army Selects Sagem for Phoenix 2010

23 October 2009

French defence procurement agency DGA has selected Sagem for the French Army's Phoenix 2010 programme, an initiative to transform the army into a highly developed network-centred operation.

The programme scheduled for mid-2010 will plan and execute field demonstrations in specific areas using hardware and software from Sagem and its partners, modified to achieve maximum efficiency for the tests.

The operational tests carried out over 18 months will demonstrate new capabilities in close combat including tracking friend and foe positions, the robustness of tactical communications, continuity between mounted and dismounted phases as well as surveillance and air-land support.

The programme will be executed in conjunction with the DGA and the French Army while the land and joint systems division of Thales will act as co-contractor for the programme.

The programme results could also lead to the acquisition of new equipment for integration into combat platforms in an effort to enhance their operational capabilities.
