Harris to Supply US Army with Multiband Manpack Radios

19 October 2009

Harris Corporation will supply the US Army with Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband tactical manpack radios and vehicular power-amplifier adapter systems under a $419m basic purchasing agreement.

Radio systems from this order will be deployed by the army for missions to provide next-generation, high-speed tactical satellite and voice-and-data communications.

The AN/PRC-117G supports requirements such as streaming video, imagery, biometrics, logistics and other data-intensive applications offering an extended frequency range of 30MHz to 2GHz.

The manpack radio, about half the size of currently fielded multiband systems, has a fully integrated and high-assurance internet protocol equipment (HAIPE) waveform, which enables it to interface seamlessly with the government's secure internet protocol router network (SIPRNet).

The radio can also be upgraded to meet future joint tactical radio system (JTRS) requirements such as the mobile user objective system for satellite communications.

The initial delivery order under the contract is valued at $165m.
