The US Army Space and Missile Defense Command has awarded a delivery order of $36.8m to FLIR Systems for the Star SAFIRE(R) III stabilised multi-sensor systems.

The Star SAFIRE III is a threat detection sensor system available with up to seven sensor and laser payloads, including a high-resolution infrared imager, long-range colour cameras and an embedded global positioning system/inertial navigation system for precise target location.

The new sensor systems will be employed in the Base Expeditionary and Surveillance Systems – Combined programme.

This delivery order is an extension of an earlier contract and is expected to complete in July 2010. The contract work will be taken up at FLIR’s Wilsonville, Oregon facility.
