Raytheon Seeks Ideas to Defeat IEDs

Raytheon has launched a website to encourage defence industry leaders and academics to work together to combat improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The site allows the confidential submission of ideas to receive confidential reviews and feedback on the proposed technology.

Raytheon says firms will retain proprietary control over their suggestions.

IEDs are the number one cause of casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, causing 80 percent of US limb losses.

Raytheon Network Centric Systems vice president of business development and strategic planning Jack Costello says the website is part of Raytheon's goal of exhausting every opportunity to find the best solutions to combat IEDs.
