US and Russia Close to Interceptor Agreement

25 March 2008 15:54

Russia has confirmed the US has guaranteed a proposed anti-missile shield, to be placed in Poland, will not be directed at its nation.

Speaking on Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the US agreed to meet with a series of measures required by Russia to ensure this is the case.

The agreement follows lengthy discussions and debate on the issue.

The US wants to place ten interceptor missiles in Poland along with a tracking radar in the Czech Republic for protection against Iran and North Korea.
