General Dynamics Smart Phone Approved for Top-Secret Use

07 March 2008 15:22

The General Dynamics C4 Systems Sectera smart phone has been certified for top-secret classification voice communication by the US National Security Agency (NSA).

The Sectera Edge, also certified for email and web access at the top-secret level and below, is capable of synchronising information with a user's computer, in a similar manner to commercial mobile phone and PDA devices.

The phone operates on an existing global system for mobile communications and code division multiple access commercial networks.

C4 Systems vice president of information assurance John Cole says the phone enables personnel to access both classified and unclassified voice and data communications on the same device.

"The Sectera Edge is an all-in-one communications solution allowing users to easily switch between classified and unclassified information by pressing a single key," he says.
