Raytheon has received two orders worth US$17.2m for 18 common sensor payloads from the US Army.
The orders are part of an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract awarded in November 2007, with options worth up to US$1.2bn.
Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems business (SAS) is developing a robust advanced sensor for the soldier and army air-ground team that will provide tactical reconnaissance, surveillance and mission support in target acquisition.
SAS Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance vice president Tim Carey says the Army Common Sensor Payload Programme is still in the early stages.
"However, our broad core market strength and experience in building electro-optical infrared systems are proving to be distinct advantages as we move forward," Carey says.
The common sensor payload, which will equip ERMP and other unmanned and manned army aircraft, calls for design and development, testing and air vehicle integration of a variant of Raytheon's multi-spectral targeting system.
