Lockheed Martin has received a US$194m contract to produce Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) for the US Army Aviation & Missile Command.

ATACMS can be used against fixed and moving targets in open, urban and complex terrain.

With a range of up to 300km, ATACMS is fired by the Multiple Launch Rocket System family of launchers.

Lockheed says the contract includes the ATACMS Quick Reaction Unitary and Block IA Missiles.

Work is expected to be complete by the second quarter of 2010.

ATACMS was the first tactical surface-to-surface missile fired by the US Army, used during Operation Desert Storm.
