India Closes Missile Development Programme

09 January 2008 12:17

India has announced plans to ditch its Development of Guided Integrated Missile Programme in favour of foreign collaboration.

Defence Research and Development Organisation chief controller S Prahalda says most of the missiles developed under the programme are almost complete and many are already in use in the armed forces.

Prahlada says long-range missiles, under-sea launched missiles and futuristic weapons systems such as electronic counter-warfare measures will be "undertaken in-house".

"New missile and weapons systems will be developed within a five-year time frame at low costs, with foreign partners and private industries," he says.
