Raytheon is to supply the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency with tower-based, elevated persistent surveillance capabilities in Afghanistan, under a US$5.3m contract announced this week.
Raytheon says the Enhanced Surveillance Systems is similar to the Rapid Aerostat Initial Deployment (RAID) systems currently in us by the US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan.
RAID consists of infrared and other sensor systems, elevated on a stationary platform, capable of detecting hostile troop and equipment movement at great distance.
Raytheon will also provide all logistic support services needed to keep the system operational.
