US Tests Missile Defence Ground System

19 November 2007

The US Missile Defence Agency (MDA) has successfully completed a comprehensive Distributed Ground Test (GTD-02).

The two-week long GTD-02 tested operational and fielded Ballistic Missile Defence System (BMDS) elements utilising existing operational networks and communications, the agency says.

GTD-02 was an operationally realistic ground test exercising the entire BMDS using “real world” scenarios designed to demonstrate and assess overall system performance.

Participating elements included a Forward Based X-Band Radar, Space-Based Infrared System, Joint Tactical Ground Station and PATRIOT.
