UK Ready to Launch Latest Skynet Satellite

09 November 2007 16:30

The UK is due to launch its latest military satellite as part of the Skynet project later today.

The Skynet 5B will join the 5A satellite, which was launched in March this year, the BBC reports.

The £3.6bn Skynet project is the UK's single biggest space venture.

It will allow the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force to transfer more data between command centres at a faster rate.

5A is already handling secure traffic for forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
