Lord Drayson Quits for the Racing Life

07 November 2007 15:37

The UK's Minister of State for Defence Equipment and Support, Lord Drayson, has left the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to pursue a motor racing career in the American Le Mans series.

Lord Drayson, who has held the post for two years, was responsible for the implementation of the Defence Industrial Strategy in 2005.

He says he believes improvements made in the MoD over the past two years have been "outstanding".

"The publication of the Defence Industrial Strategy in 2005 provided the framework for the reforms and marked a turning point in the relationship between government and industry," Drayson says.

"The merger of the DPA and DLO into a single organisation, Defence Equipment and Support, has been a great success and will enable these reforms to endure and be built upon."

Lord Drayson will be replaced by Baroness Ann Taylor.
