US Missile Defence Proposal Wins NATO Support

A new proposal for missile defence cooperation between the US and Russia has won the support of NATO allies.

The US has proposed a "joint regional architecture in missile defence" which will involve the integration of the Russian and NATO-US anti-missile systems, in turn enhancing the capacity of both systems.

Russia insists the US drop plans to deploy an anti-missile radar base in the Czech Republic and interceptor rockets in Poland, amid fears the bases could be targeted towards it.

The US wants Russia to be part of the missile defence systems in Eastern Europe and says the latest proposal is designed to show Russia it need not fear the system being used against it.
