Lockheed Martin Develops Intelligent Reporting System

04 September 2007 14:13

Lockheed Martin has developed a spoken-language understanding system for military mobile and dismounted operations.

The Wearable Intelligent Reporting Environment (WIRE) understands the context of language and intuitively knows how to parse the observation into a variety of reports such as the Size Activity Location Unit Time and Equipment report.

WIRE, which is not a recording device, is embedded in a lightweight, wearable computer with a microphone for use in outdoor, high-noise environments.

It is expected to be used by patrolling war fighters to report items of interest.

Currently, patrolling war fighters rely on radio communications or memory recall when they return to base.

WIRE allows them to transmit information in real time over Wi-Fi and military radio. It can also be downloaded on return to base.
