US Air Force Reopens Drone Debate

20 August 2007 14:41

The US Air Force has reopened the debate over the ownership of unmanned aircraft, currently overseen by the Navy and Army, according to a report in today's Financial Times.

The Air Force would like to take over acquisition and development of the vehicles as executive agent following growing adoption by the military.

It says it would like to streamline costs in procurement and reduce the cost of duplication although the Army has questioned the Air Force's track record with procurement.

The US Congress is expected to make a final decision soon on what military arm will oversee the management of the vehicles.
