BEA Test Marius During 'Terrorist Attack'

24 July 2007 15:28

BAE Systems has successfully tested a mobile ground station for emergency services in a simulated terrorist attack.

The ground station is a key element of the Mobile Autonomous Reactive Information System for Urgency Situations (MARIUS), which is designed to support cooperation and decision making amongst emergency services.

The ground station links data, video from ground-based cameras, an unmanned aerial vehicle and a helicopter-based mobile phone detection system.

The system can also process information from mobile phones to track causalities and ground-based personnel, displaying their location on a detailed map, which will help teams prioritise treatment and focus their efforts on the worst hit areas.

MARIUS is funded by the European Commission and is a joint project between 12 industrial and academic partners across five countries, coordinated by EADS.
