Google Earth Aids Military Planners

19 July 2007 15:47

BAE Systems has integrated Google Earth with its image analysis and mapping software to allow easier sharing and evaluation of intelligence data by military planners.

SOCET GXP v2.3 interacts with Google Earth in real time to create 3D colour images giving geospatial context to objects of interest, resulting in enhanced intelligence for mission planning.

The software can detect changes from one day to the next, allowing analysts to pinpoint operational routes more accurately.

The programme is also compatible with the US's Environmental Systems Research Institute's common data storage and management framework.

It is available on Microsoft Windows and Unix Solaris operating systems.
