Army Awards $90m for IT Services

US Army contractor STG has signed a five-year, $190m contract for the provision of IT services to the US Army's management systems.

The contract will see STG – a company made up of IT companies General Dynamics Information Technology, ZeNETeX and New Horizons - perform operations for Headquarters Commandment, Continental US Theatre Network Operations and Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3.

STG will oversee the rollout of an IT Infrastructure Library – an integrated set of best practices that surround IT operations – for the army's network and systems operations.

It will also see new methods mapped out for security and process management while providing service support for sensitive and unclassified internet protocols.

STG defence sector senior vice president Glenn Davis says the company will use past experience from individual contracts held by STG member companies to enhance its military offering.

"Using ITIL industry best practices, we will provide mission-critical IT support services to an army organisation entrusted to establish new IT capabilities that directly support the war fighter," Davis says.
