Azerbaijan’s armed forces will receive 60 Orbiter and Aerostar tactical unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) by the end of this year.

The Azerbaijan Press Agency (APA) has reported that the UAVs were being built domestically by Azad Systems, a joint venture between Azerbaijan’s Defence Industry Ministry and Israeli Aeronautics Defence Systems.

The Orbiter Mini UAV System has been designed for conducting over-the-hill reconnaissance missions, low-intensity conflicts and urban warfare operations as well as ISR missions.

The Aerostar UAV provides real time intelligence gathering capability and can perform missions that include target acquisition, artillery fire adjustment, targets designation, and battlefield and borders control.

The nation will also produce attack variants of the drone aircraft.
