The US Army has placed a delivery order with VT Miltope to supply additional at-platform automatic test systems (APATS) maintenance support device-version 3 (MSD-V3).

The new $43.9m order is part of the $500m indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity MSD-V3 contract awarded to the company in 2009.

The APATS order is based on the next generation of the Hard Wear family of rugged computers, the rugged convertible laptop computer-type 1 (RCLC-1).

The RCLC-1 is a convertible laptop-to-tablet computer that can remain operational in extreme and volatile conditions.

Work will be carried out immediately and the MSD-V3 Type 1 kits are expected to be delivered in 2012.
