The US Army and Northrop Grumman have successfully completed an architecture review of the integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) battle command system (IBCS).

The architecture review, led by the Software Engineering Institute, was conducted to study the impact of software architecture decisions on programme requirements and business goals.

The architecture trade-off analysis methodology (ATAM) was used for the assessment focusing on quality attributes including openness, maintainability, usability, reliability, availability and performance.

The IBCS ATAM review was a scenario-based, in-depth architecture analysis involving government and industry programme stakeholders from systems engineering, design, development, test, logistics and the user community.

The IBCS programme is the first major US Army acquisition to provide open-architecture and mission-tailorable battle command system for air and missile defence units.
