Kuwait and Canada have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a military logistics base in the Gulf to support Canadian armed forces’ missions abroad.

The agreement follows Canada being forced to close a military base in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last October, due to a dispute over landing rights for the UAE’s two commercial airlines.

KUNA news agency has reported that the Kuwaiti base would enable the Canadian military to support its training mission in Afghanistan.

Canada is also planning to establish new bases in Germany and Jamaica to support humanitarian and combat missions abroad.

The US already has a logistics base in Kuwait, which is used to provide logistics for US military operations in Iraq.
