India has successfully test fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable ballistic missile, Prithvi-II, from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Orissa, India.

Defence officials said, “Taken from routine production lot during earlier user trials by the army, the missile had achieved single digit accuracy reaching close to zero circular error probability (CEP).”

The user trial proved the missile’s robustness and accuracy.

The surface-to-surface missile has a maximum range of 350km, can carry a payload of 500kg-1,000kg warhead and is capable of deceiving any anti-ballistic missile.

The 9m-long twin-engine missile was test-fired in a salvo mode on 27 March and 18 June 2010.
