Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract by the US Army Program Executive Office to provide the instrumented / digital range training system (IR/DRTS).

The five-year initial $17.6m indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract award has a maximum estimated value of $450m.

The IR/DRTS programme will replace the aging live-fire training infrastructures with digital instrumentation capabilities in support of range modernisation.

Instrumentation includes cameras, targetry systems with audiovisual effects, data recording equipment, range control centres and scenario development technology.

The system will provide armour vehicle crews with collective gunnery training and qualification for Abrams, Bradley and Stryker platforms.

The Lockheed team includes Riptide Software, Senspex Camera, Strategic Range Solutions and Tactical Micro.
