The Turkish Defence Industry Executive Committee (DIEC) has selected Sikorsky for its potential 109 derivative Black Hawk helicopters contract for multimission use by the Turkish Government.

The expected ten-year, $3.5bn contract will be finalised with the Undersecretariat for Defense Industry and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).

The contract will also include aftermarket support, including training and maintenance, and the supply of parts and components to customers worldwide.

Sikorsky Military Systems president Mick Maurer said the configuration of the T-70 baseline helicopter was based on the S-70i Black Hawk helicopter.

“The Turkish utility helicopter, derived from the Black Hawk helicopter, will be an advanced, combat-proven, multimission helicopter that can meet all of the mission and performance requirements,” he added.

TAI will be the prime contractor, while work will be performed by Sikorsky, and other US and Turkish companies.
